Suikendo
Suikendo, The Way of The Water Fist is a philosophy of how to approach Martial Arts. It is based upon principles of movement rooted in physics and the balancing principles of water and it’s life force as it relates to our being.
Suikendo transcends individual styles, it serves to incorporate it’s principles within any style to assist in that style’s growth. Suikendo recognized that as there is a balance within the universe there must also be balance within the Martial Artist. The training in Suikendo reflects this as a Martial Artist’s need to train both physically and spiritually; that his or her training has a correct sense of purpose.
On the physical side, Suikendo’s training is based on learning to generate maximum power through proper body control and movement. Once a Martial Artist has learned to generate maximum power the next step is to transfer the energy that has been created for maximum effect. The movements and principles of Suikendo are based upon the natural laws of physics.
The spiritual side of Suikendo is the most important to Master Yamashita. Master Yamashita believes that the physical training is the tool used to develop each martial artist’s spiritual self. It is this development of spirit and character that defines a martial artist; not his or her physical abilities.
